Effort Seeks to Expand Broadband Availability

The New York Times reports on government efforts to expand the availability of broadband services. The efforts could result in improved (and higher performance) connectivity for telecommuters and workers in remote offices.

According to the New York Times, “the Obama administration is seeking to nearly double the wireless communications spectrum available for commercial use over the next 10 years.”

To do this, the President Obama will sign a presidential memorandum today to make wireless spectrum now controlled by the government and private companies available for auction.

This specific effort complements recommendations made in the National Broadband Plan created by the Federal Communications Commission. That plan encourages the expansion of high-speed wireless broadband services.
