An Accenture survey on open-source software in the enterprise finds that use of the software is at an inflection point. More than two-thirds of organizations anticipate increasing their investment in it this year, and almost 40 percent said that they expect to migrate mission-critical software to open source within the next 12 months.
The industry analysis and news site ReadWrite Web has a story this week reporting on an Accenture open-source software survey of 300 blue-chip organizations. The survey found that many of the respondents are fully committed to open source.
Specifically, more than two-thirds of organizations anticipate increasing their investment in it this year, and almost 40 percent said that they expect to migrate mission-critical software to open source within the next 12 months, according the Accenture.
Cost is a huge driver. According to the article “71 percent of the respondents said they believed they could save in software maintenance costs. They also cited savings in total cost of ownership and development costs.”
